H.E. Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Juma Hands Over Accreditation Renewal Certificates as Gulf University Secures Five-Year Institutional and Programmatic Accreditation, Launches Landmark Ph.D. Programs

MANAMA, KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN — Gulf University has achieved a major institutional milestone by renewing its Institutional Accreditation for a period of five years, pursuant to Higher Education Council (HEC) Board of Trustees Resolution No. (333/15/2025) issued on June 24, 2025. This milestone reaffirmation highlights the strength of the university’s academic and administrative ecosystem and its ongoing commitment to quality standards and institutional development. The renewal of institutional accreditation solidifies the university’s standing and its ongoing mission to deliver trusted higher education and academic outcomes that meet the needs of the community and development sectors.

This milestone coincides with four of the university’s academic programs obtaining programmatic academic accreditation for a five-year period under Resolution No. (284/2025) issued on March 24, 2025, which are the Bachelor of Accounting and Finance, Bachelor of Mass Communication (Digital Media Track & Digital Public Relations Track), Bachelor of Interior Design Engineering, and Bachelor of Human Resources Management. In continuation of this momentum, Gulf University has opened admissions for its Ph.D. programs in Business Management and Mass Communication, aimed at enhancing the postgraduate and scientific research ecosystem while providing advanced opportunities for researchers, professionals, and leaders.

His Excellency Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education and Chairman of the HEC Board of Trustees, personally presented the accreditation certificates to Prof. Mohanad AlFiras, President of Gulf University, in the presence of Her Excellency Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al-Jahromi, Secretary-General of the Higher Education Council.

Prof. Mona bint Rashid Al-Zayani, Chairperson of Gulf University’s Board of Trustees and Directors, expressed her sincere gratitude to H.E. Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Juma and H.E. Dr. Diana Abdulkarim Al-Jahromi for their continued support in strengthening the Kingdom’s academic accreditation framework. She noted that the university takes great pride in the trust reflected in these accreditations, calling it a motivation to continuously elevate GU’s programs and learning outcomes in service of students, the community, and Bahrain’s standing in higher education and scientific research.

Prof. Mohanad Ismail AlFiras said the launch of both Ph.D. programs reflects the university’s commitment to advancing scientific research that serves the economic and media sectors and supports a knowledge-based economy. He explained that the programs follow an integrated, coursework-free research model: researchers engage from day one in a specialized project, supported by targeted workshops and structured supervision, culminating in a thesis defense over a standard three-year duration.

The Ph.D. in Business Management is offered in both Arabic and English, featuring six structured research stages and requiring the publication of two scientific research papers during the academic journey. Meanwhile, the Ph.D. in Mass Communication is offered in Arabic, focusing on developing innovative research that keeps pace with rapid transformations in media and communication. Both programs welcome students in the Fall and Spring semesters to prepare researchers and leaders capable of making original contributions across academia, scientific research, executive leadership, specialized consulting, and policymaking.
