Department of Accounting and Finance seeks to train students in the scientific and professional matters in Accounting and Finance and enables the graduate to deal with the identification, measurement, and delivery of information to assist the stakeholder institutions and individuals in economic decision-making.

As can the student to develop personal relationships, communication skills, teamwork, and solving problem skills, and dealing with economic and accounting problems caused by the financial crises that have confronted the projects.

In addition, the Accounting and Finance program aims to prepare the graduated the student to practice as an accountant, auditor, financial analyst, financial manager, risk analyst, in different economic sectors, and different type of institutions.

The program of Accounting and Finance at Gulf University seeks to ensure that graduates of the program have the best career opportunities. The study plan for the program covers a wide variety of topics. It covers accounting topics related to financial accounting, costs, taxes, and auditing, as well as technological issues. In the field of finance, it deals with financial management and personal finance issues, financial institutions, and investment issues.

The program aims not only to provide knowledge skills but also to provide students with different skills such as analytical skills, communication skills, leadership skills, teamwork skills, responsibility skills, lifelong learning skills and other skills that qualify students to meet the needs of the Labor market.

The Accounting and Finance program seeks to achieve realistic approaches to students through, Internship, graduation project, field visits, and special guest speakers.

The Programme of Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance at Gulf University aims to:

  1. Cultivate transferrable skills on leadership, collaboration, problem solving, communication, analytical thinking, independent and life-long learning to enhance employability in their filed and adapt to rapidly changing environments.
  2. Provide the students with crucial foundation in business, economics, law, mathematics, statistics as well as the recent information technology appropriate to Accounting and Finance domains.
  3. Foster student’s understanding of diversity, culture, globalization, social responsibility and ethics for Accounting and Finance fields in organizations. 
  4. Promote innovation mindset for Accounting and Finance to participate in improving business organization performance in Bahrain society and GCC.
  5. Develop student’s skills in technological agility, including decision making and integrating current and emerging technologies within business contexts
  6. Promote the student’s capabilities of critical thinking to analyze Accounting and Finance problems, find alternative solutions within real business situations.
  7. Offer the students the opportunity to obtain the skills that link directly with the professional body standards (ACCA, CIMA, and ICAEW).

Knowledge: Theoretical Understanding:

 

LO1 K-TU: Demonstrate an understanding of the economic, regulatory, ethical, Business functions and processes, social and global contexts in which accounting and finance operate for the firm, financial market, and the public sector.

LO2 K-TU: Demonstrate a knowledge of theories, current and alternative practices of accounting, including recognition, disclosure of financial statements, financial reporting, cost accounting, auditing and taxation system in a local as well as international socio-economic domain. 

LO3 K-TU: Demonstrate knowledge of major theories and current practices of finance, including financial management, financial markets and institutions, investment and portfolio management techniques, financial risk management and the relevant quantitative methods, financial technology, corporate and Personal Finance in local as well as international socio-economic domain. 

LO4 K-TU: Demonstrate in depth awareness of the international, regional and Local issues related to accounting and financial integrity area, the role of accountants and financial players. 

 

Knowledge Practical Application

After successful completion of the program, the student will be able to:

LO5 K-PA: Apply techniques of recording and summarising transactions; financial statements preparation, performance measurement, audit planning and control.  

 LO6 K-PA: Apply current technical language in Accounting and Finance to inform managerial decisions and reach a valid conclusion.

LO7 K-PA: Perform International Financial Reporting standards in all aspects of accounting, calculation of financial ratios and interpretation, tax planning, budgeting, investment assets pricing models, financing and complicated corporate strategy.

LO8 K-PA: Apply Numeracy skills required for the processing, analysis and interpretation of financial and accounting information, statistical and other numerical data.

After successful completion of the program, the student will be able to:

LO9 S-A: Critically analyze and interpret structured and, to a more limited extent unstructured Business problems and financial technical data, including, financial analysis projection, cash flow analysis, financial risk, potential schemes of forensic accounting.

LO10 S-PS: Develop rational and cogent arguments concerning complex accounting/financial problems through the appraisal of empirical analysis and evidence.

LO11 S-PS: Design financial and Business oriented solutions via a thoughtful and analytical approach while dealing with any financial or/and accounting issues and decisions.

LO12 S-A: Examine the application of accounting and finance theories, practices, accounting systems in a dynamic context of the social, economic and legal environment.

LO13 S-C Communicate conclusion findings of the projects/ reports effectively (orally visual, and in writing) to the stakeholders with professional integrity.

LO14 S-IT: Use with agility the relevant information technology, software packages for Accounting and Finance.

LO15 S-N: Perform data analytics techniques, data management, data privacy and security, Ethical use and dissemination of data, information system and risks associated with it

Applicants are admitted to the program according to the following criteria:

 

  1. The applicant must have a high-school certificate or an equivalent according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  2.  The applicant’s high-school certificate or the certificate of an institute after the high-school must be accepted by the program she/he wishes to be enrolled in (arts- science- industrial- commercial) and the GPA must not be less than 60%. Otherwise, the applicant will be enrolled in a preparatory program that includes a number of preparatory courses assigned by the relevant college.
  3. Applicants must sit for placement tests based on the programs they apply for English Language, Computer Skills and Mathematics.
  4. If the applicant fails in any of the placement tests, she/he is required to study Preparatory Courses relevant to placement test.
  5. Applicants will be exempted from the placement test in English Language if they have a valid acceptable grade in any of the following: TOEFL (550 PBT / 79 IBT), IELTS (6), FCE 60% or an equivalent.
  6. Applicants will be exempted from the placement test in Computer Skills if they have an ICDL certificate.
  7. Applicants transferred from similar programs will be exempted from placement tests in English or Arabic Language provided that these programs have similar teaching language to that in GU, otherwise they will sit for placement test in either English or Arabic Language, relevant to their desired program in GU.
  8. Graduates or students from other higher educational institutions whether they obtained a degree from their institutions or not, can be admitted in GU programs provided that they meet admission requirements at GU.
